Mini break for Dartanyan and Jump

Dartanyan and Jump's move to the Marquee stalls

Known for his long flowing coat and tall stature, Dartanyan the Poitou donkey and his mule pal Jump will spend their ‘mini break’ a short distance away from their home at Shelter 6 in the Marquee stables, in the heart of the sanctuary.

Essential work is being carried out on Shelter 6 to improve the area for Dartanyan and Jump. The work includes levelling their play area and replacing the bark with better draining sand, with new gates allowing easier access. We are moving indoor water troughs to a location where they will drain better and adding new drainage holes to help improve the stable area.

Donkeys need a hardstanding away from the wet ground, which is particularly important during the wet winter months. The work to improve drainage around their home will ensure Dartanyan and Jump will continue to have healthy feet.

Visitors to the sanctuary will still be able to see the pair, as the pathway runs alongside their new temporary home, and Dartanyan and Jump are sure to enjoy still meeting new and familiar faces.

They are both settling in well and have been enjoying getting to know their new surroundings.
