We operate three raffles a year in the Spring, Summer and at Christmas.
Our raffle terms and conditions
1. Introduction
1.1 The Donkey Sanctuary (Registered Charity Number 264818) operates three raffles a year in the Spring, Summer and at Christmas. These terms and conditions apply to all of these raffles and they will be collectively referred to in these Terms and Conditions as ‘The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle’.
1.2 The Donkey Sanctuary is licensed by the Gambling Commission under the Gambling Act 2005 (License Number 9471) and is subject to the laws of England and Wales. The Responsible Person is Marianne Steele of The Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth, Devon, EX10 0NU.
1.3 All profits raised from The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle will be donated to The Donkey Sanctuary.
1.4 By entering The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions and any entries not complying with these Terms and Conditions will not be valid. The Donkey Sanctuary reserves the right to update these Terms and Conditions at any time and any updated version will be effective as soon as it is published on the website.
1.5 In 2023 the total proceeds from all entries sold for The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle was £730,646.00. Of these total proceeds 26.5% of ticket sales was spent on expenses relating to the promoting and running of the raffles, 3.6% was spent on prizes and a fantastic 69.9% came back to The Donkey Sanctuary for the unrestricted purposes of our work. Based on raffle ticket sales in 2023 the average odds of winning a prize in The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle for a single ticket is approximately 1 in 4,936.8. The more tickets purchased the increased chance there is of winning.
2. Details
2.1 Entry to The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle is open only to mainland residents of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. For clarity, this excludes the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.
2.2 Tickets must not be sold in Northern Ireland by any person in Northern Ireland and may only be sold by post or telephone from mainland Great Britain to persons in Northern Ireland.
2.3 Entry to The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle is open only to individuals aged 18 years old or over. Any person who has entered The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle and is found to be under 18 years of age will be disqualified from the raffle and automatically forfeit the right to any prize. If a person under 18 years of age is found to have participated in the raffle after the raffle draw has taken place, then a full refund will be made to that person and any prizes that might otherwise have been due to them will not be paid out. If prizes have already been paid out, all reasonable attempts will be made to recover them.
2.4 Entry to The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle is open to employees and volunteers, with the exclusion of key members of staff, subsidiary companies or any company directly involved with running The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle who are not permitted to play.
2.5 Each ticket for The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle will:
- identify The Donkey Sanctuary
- state the name and address of the responsible person
- state the date of the draw
- state the price of the ticket
- state the fact that The Donkey Sanctuary is licensed by the Gambling Commission
2.6 Entry to The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle is £1 per ticket. More than one ticket may be purchased but no more than 600 tickets may be purchased in a 12 month period.
2.7 Payment for The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle tickets must be made in advance. If you enter the raffle by post payment can be made by credit card, debit card, cheque or cash. CAF or other charity vouchers cannot be accepted as payment. Due to Gambling Commission regulations, payment for raffle tickets over the telephone or online by credit and debit cards cannot be accepted. Tickets will be entered into The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle draw as soon as the whole payment is received. The Donkey Sanctuary accepts no responsibility if the chosen method of payment is cancelled in error.
2.8 No responsibility is taken for any The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle tickets or payment lost, delayed, or damaged in the post and proof of posting will not be accepted as proof of receipt.
2.9 The identity of the person entering The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle must be made clear also on the ticket and/or response slips. If the entrant’s identity cannot be determined by a reasonable individual, the ticket will not be entered into The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle draw and the cost of the tickets purchased will be treated as a donation.
2.10 The only amendments to The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle entries that are permitted after entry are changes of address or telephone number.
2.11 Tickets for The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle must not be sold to any person in any street. For the purpose of this condition ‘street’ includes any bridge, road, lane, footway, subway, square, court, alley or passage (including passages through enclosed premises such as shopping malls) whether a thoroughfare or not.
2.12 The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle for Spring 2024 closes on 3 May 2024. Any entries received after the closing date may not be entered into the draw and the payment will be treated as a donation to The Donkey Sanctuary unless expressly stated otherwise by the sender.
2.13 The draw for The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle for Spring 2024 will take place on 15 May 2024. The Fast Reply draw will take place before the main raffle draw. One ticket will be drawn for the Fast Reply prize and will then be added into the main raffle draw. The first ticket drawn in the main draw will win the first prize, the second ticket drawn will win the second prize and this will continue until all prizes have been won. The draw is manual and at least two people will be present and will pull physical tickets at random.
2.14 The results of The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle are final.
2.15 There will be 46 cash prizes in The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle for Spring 2024. There will be no alternatives, prizes are non-transferable and no interest is payable. The prizes are as follows:
- 1st Prize £5,000 cash
- 2nd Prize £1,000 cash
- 3rd Prize £500 cash
- 4th Prize £250 cash
- 5th Prize £100
- 40 runner-up prizes of £25 cash
2.16 All entries returned by 5 March 2024 will be entered into a Fast Reply draw for an extra chance to win one prize of £500 cash. This Fast Reply draw is not a separate raffle but is part of The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle for Spring 2024 as set out under these Terms and Conditions.
2.17 The Donkey Sanctuary will notify all winners in writing and will notify the top three winners by telephone where a telephone number is available.
2.18 A list of the winning raffle ticket numbers will be published on The Donkey Sanctuary website within 24 hours of the draw taking place or will be available by calling 01395 578222.
2.19 Cash prizes will be paid by cheque within 14 days of The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle draw and sent to the name and address of the registered buyers of the winning raffle ticket. Any cheques that are not cashed within six months of the date of the draw will be forfeited.
2.20 Winners will be invited to write a testimonial to help The Donkey Sanctuary promote future raffles, however, this is not a precondition of entering The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle and the winners reserve the right to anonymity.
2.21 All ticket stubs relating to The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle will be destroyed once all prizes have been awarded.
2.22 The Donkey Sanctuary accepts no responsibility for:
- Any loss or damage, including the right to claim a prize if these Terms and Conditions are not complied with.
- Any tickets which are damaged or illegible or from which the prize winner cannot be identified.
- Any entries lost, stolen or delayed in the post or for any interest for late items.
- Late bank payments.
- The Donkey Sanctuary reserves the right to cancel or refuse an entry to The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle without notice or reason.
- The Donkey Sanctuary’s decisions on all matters affecting The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle are final and legally binding.
- The Donkey Sanctuary reserves the right to modify, cancel, suspend or terminate The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle in whole or in part at its sole discretion.
3. Complaints
3.1 Any complaints relating to The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle will be handled in line with our complaints procedure as published on The Donkey Sanctuary website. If you are unhappy with the way a complaint relating to The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle is resolved you can contact the Independent Betting Adjudication Service (IBAS) who act as an impartial adjudicator on disputes that arise between betting/gambling operators and their customers.

The draw is manual and at least two people will be present and will pull physical tickets at random.

- 50 runner-up prizes of £25 cash

5.1 The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle is intended to be a fun way to support The Donkey Sanctuary and the vital work we do and we are committed to operating our Raffles in a socially responsible way. If you would like more information about raffles and lotteries please go to the Gambling Commission website. However, if you feel you are experiencing a problem with gambling please visit Gamble Aware’s website for help and advice or contact the National Gambling Helpline between 8am and midnight on 0808 8020 133. You can also choose to self-exclude from The Donkey Sanctuary Raffle if you are experiencing problems with gambling by contacting us on 01395 578222 or emailing us. This exclusion will apply for a minimum of six months and you will need to contact us after this time has passed to play again.
