The harness is a common aspect of all working equids, regardless of the task performed, and its correct or incorrect use has a direct impact on their health and welfare.
Throughout a series of eight modules, organised in a methodical and systematic way, every aspect directly related to the harness, and the different activities working equids may perform using the harness, will be covered.
*This is an updated version of Accessing Harness (HRNS101) which is no longer available.
Course details
The Research and Operational Support of The Donkey Sanctuary developed a research project focused on the best collars for donkeys to use, followed by the more correct and animal-friendly harness and techniques for equids to perform agroforestry activities. This course gathers all that scientific knowledge and present it in a easy-to-understand way, based on practical videos where, step by step, all this information is provided.
So the main idea behind this course is for you to understand first and in detail the different parts, function and adjustments of harness. Allowing you to select the correct one depending on the task equids will perform. After that, we’ll see in detail specific aspects related with safety around working with working equids. And later we will cover the use of equids for agroforestry activities. At the end of this course, we hope that you’ll be able to increase your knowledge and have a much better understanding about harness, regardless if you are a user or someone who works in the welfare sector and you’ll advise other users about harness.
