The Donkey Sanctuary has an ambition to help improve the lives of donkeys and mules around the world, by providing relevant up-to-date resources on donkey care, welfare, behaviour, nutrition and veterinary topics. These recordings of live webinars are created to help owners, handlers, carers and the employees of organisations across the world find the information they need to improve the lives of their donkeys.

This webinar recording is by three of Europe’s leading experts on animal traction which will focus on the use of working equids in Europe; the current reality, challenges and opportunities.

Equids in Europe are being used in areas such as agriculture, vineyards, forest, urban environments and other activities. This webinar is an excellent opportunity to explore the reality in Europe around working equids.

This webinar includes three sections:

  • Pit Schlechter (European Draught Horse Federation) will start the webinar off by talking about the current situation facing working equids.
  • Erchard Schroll, (Farmer/Logger) will cover the challenges and opportunities, talking about his experience as a professional logger and farmer using working horses including harness and implements.
  • A panel discussion about the situation, challenges and opportunities facing working equines in Europe with Joao Rodrigues (Reseach and operational support), alongside Erhard Schroll and Pit Schlechter.
