This course is recommended for veterinary surgeons and veterinary students who may see donkeys occasionally and wish to be more confident in their knowledge and approach to this species.

Course details

The aim of this course is to ensure a better understanding of common conditions that affect donkey hooves and lead to foot lameness. The course covers the basic difference in anatomy and radiographic findings between horse and donkey hooves, then leads on to correct trimming of the hoof. Behaviour considerations are included, and how the environment, feeding and basic donkey health interact to create a healthy or unhealthy hoof. The contribution of hooves to overall donkey welfare is covered using a number of examples and case studies.
