After the death of his best friend in July 2021, Peter was without a companion. The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland team paired him with a new donkey friend, and he is now much happier.

After being rescued from a forest in Cork, Peter joined our Irish rehoming scheme. In 2009, he moved to a Guardian home in Co. Meath where he joined Guardian family Brian Donovan and Paula Cummins and their donkey, Paul.

It was devastating when Paul passed away, and it became apparent that Peter missed his friend, so the team worked with his guardians to find him a new companion.

The team in Ireland decided a donkey named Armani, who came to the sanctuary after being abandoned, might be a good match.

Donkey Welfare Adviser for The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland, Joe Prendergast, says: "I'll never forget the loud bray Peter let out when Armani first arrived, and it's been great to see his confidence grow since that day!"

The pair bonded quickly and have since formed a strong friendship.
